chucks ahoy!

i just saw my first chuckwagon races today at the medicine hat stampede grandstands. the 1 o’clock races with the miniature horses were absolutely adorable and at 2, the pro races began and after listening carefully to the explanation of the rules and the roles (okay i was busy asking questions and talking the entire time but eventually caught on) i was quite enthralled with the event and can’t wait until next year. here are just a few of the pictures i took.

road rant

i was driving in to work for solid gold sunday yesterday from 40 mile park and just at the entrance on the formost highway, a road crew was setting up for construction - setting up on a sunday - the day before the long weekend is about to end - what??? why? - to be sure people have to go slow on their way home?? i guess it’s better than on their way TO the park when they were beginning their holiday - but of the all the roads, of all the counties, of all of alberta - who on earth thought it was absolutely neccessary, that stretch of road before 40 mile was in imminent need of repair? and not even of GOOD repair - just those stone chips that end up chipping your windshield even at the suggested speed of 80 km/hr. it made me cranky. it reminded me of the commercial from the government about improving alberta roads - don’t rip through construction zones - i don’t - but why don’t they get their employees to use their heads when it comes to repairing roads on long weekends unless ABSOLUTELY NECCESARY! and then PAYING people time and a half to work on a long weekend that is coming out of my taxes!!! how about giving them the time off and giving albertans a stress free long weekend. rant over - road rage done - thankyou ! lol

hatters are the best

last night while i was manning the chat booth - well, actually i left ray manning the booth - i was wandering around in search of the lost and found - which is bye the way - at the stampede office in the kinplex - well, let me just say how impressed i am with hatters - 3 wallets lost at the stampede grounds yesterday and all 3 wallets returned to their rightfull owners all in tack - nothing missing - it was great - here i am with no wallet - mines always empty so i just keep coin in my pockets and i get to the dole booth across from the stampede office - smoothies are 3 dollars and 75 cents - i only have 3-10 - and i'm standing there with my station nametag on and justin hersh sees me and says corinne bolt - from chat and yes it's me - not the girl who paid 200 dollars for a pair of jeans - that's another story for later but anyhoo - he introduces himself and can you believe the nerve? not of him, but of me - i ask if he can lend me 65 cents - well he does and since he works for the stampede in maintenance, i know for sure that i will see him once again when i am there tonight and i will pay him back with interest - thanks so much justin - made my night! hatters are the best!

saturday's shows started with newcomer shevy smith and the kentucky headhunters

followed by ronnie milsap and the road hammers

and talk about a true redneck woman - gretchen brought the flamingo - left the christmas lights on the front porch i guess

cowboy troy kicked off the big and rich show
and shot big and rich 100 dollar bills into the crowd before the crazy duo came on stage, then an encore and then back on stage with the head hunters for the final final encore and they ended up smashing big kenny's guitar - it was an absolutely crazy.

and then aaron lines starting things off on sunday and carolyn dawn johnson followed, williams and ree were hilarious and then carrie underwood wowed the crowds and reba completed the entire weekend with a wicked show.

i was in Souris Manitoba over the weekend for my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary - it was the weekend too for the souris fair, fireworks, the peacock pub (street pub) and the stanley cup. what? you didn’t know it was stanley cup weekend? lol - it was for souris - it was the weekend that aaron rome brought it home. i can’t believe i got that close - not only to touch it but to DRINK from it! (though i didn’t eat the poutine from it) once in a life time opportunity and i get to be there the same night - SWEET - i can add that to my list of sports accomplishments

canada, cars and corona (not the beer)

hey there! i hope you are having a great canada day weekend. after talking to kevin therres on the radio about the world’s first canola biodiesel jet car that he would be demoing at the drag races - it’s a 2007 corvette f/c - i was off TO the races.
ray and i watched the top alcohol funny car’s time trials. 3 years running we have been there on the canada day long weekend since ray’s cousin is a pit crew member for tim nemeth’s team, you may have read about the redcliff native in saturday’s medicine hat news. an emotional time for the entire family, but a fun time as well.

i didn’t get to stick around and see the finals or the jet car because i was next off to ralph’s for a bridal shower and home and in bed before midnight. you would never have known it canada day because it seemed i couldn’t put two words together on solid gold sunday. maybe i do work better sleep deprived. after work i tested out my new golf clubs ray got me as an early birthday present. so my RAZOR clubs are officially broken in and i shot a 72!!! pretty good eh? NOT - it was only on 9

no fireworks for me this year since it was to bed early since i am filling in for jim duce this morning, but this afternoon it’s a nap and getting ready for my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary in manitoba. 2 more sleeps til i leave and then the following weekend it’s off to craven country jamboree - maybe i’ll see you there - this weekend is a touch tone long weekend with craven artist cd’s up for grabs, antonio’s pizza and possibly - a pair of weekend passes if you’re the right caller through. have a great rest of the long weekend and good luck!

was at the casino on the weekend and walked away a winner - yeah - forked out 60 bucks to win 60 dollars and 50 cents - hey - i said i was a winner, not a big winner - they’ve got 4 new machines that have been there for about a week and they are deal or no deal - with game show music and everything - so i was entertained for over an hour and if you get 3 cash boxes - you get to play deal or no deal for credits - don’t you just love that game show? not sure about howie mandel’s bald look - why is the game so popular? is it for the possibility of big money? or the wierd people they have on - i mean come on - who brings their lizard, parot, iguana and other animals from home - all i know is that guy must be single - and probably will be for quite some time!

crazy corn and what the hail?

i hope you are having a fantastic weekend as as i am. yesterday after checking out the show and shine at lions park for redcliff days, the rest of the day was spent at 40 mile park- nothing like dinner on the barbeque with steak, porkchops, tinfoiled potatoes and corn on the cob (which was big and yellow and succulant but the rows weren’t all lined up for the typewriter type eaters at the table - ha ha tracey) and the night was topped off with a campfire and a minimum amount of rain.

back tracking a bit - just getting to 40 mile that afternoon was a challenge. we were headed west on township road 84 (the road, not the band) and were just at the solberg’s farm when hail hit and hit big - the size of large marbles - so i suggested pulling in and getting behind a large tree…. is that really safe when lightning was on the horizon? anyhoo, ray decided it wasn’t enough protection and headed back east to try to get out of it - but we seemed to be going INTO it - which way was it coming from? so we hung a left and headed north and then it got even worse. no matter which direction we went - nothing could get us out of it so he gave up and headed back to where we started - and by the time we where back there - it was over and done! no damage done to the truck thankfully but i kinda felt like it was getting in line at the check out at the store and you think you pick the shortest line, but end up getting behind someone with something that won’t ring through or has no price tag and they have to call a manager and it ends up taking the longest. ain’t that the way!

hopefully there will be no hail to be found on the golf course this afternoon. i am a fairweather golfer but will brave the elements just to see ray having fun with his kids because i don’t think anything would put a damper on an afternoon a father with his children no matter what they are doing - rain or shine! happy fathers day dads!

wonderful weekends

june 12 - 2007

i absolutely love working in medicine hat - it’s such a great place with such great people. a big city with small town values. my fun began in even smaller town bow island. friday night we went to the tavern where my fiance ray usually plays crib against JC the bartender when it’s not busy. first ray helped her load up some empties in the back, so i helped out behind the bar. now i have never worked in a bar before, restaurants yes, but this was my first experience as a tar bender and what a blast i had. well it started to get busy and rather than have her get up down to wait on cutomers, i continued serving! i was literally SKIPPING across the dance floor (not with drinks in hand) i was having so much fun - and not only did i make over 10 bucks in tips, but i even got a bouquet of flowers from the flower shop next door (thanks tina :)

saturday afternoon while working - a listener called to say they had 17 yards of sod to give away, would i announce it on the radio? hmmmm - this girl could use some sod herself, so they actually DELIVERED it to my home!!! thanks so much travis - that night we went out at 40 mile to visit friends and then after solid gold sunday (before heading back to 40 mile) we laid the sod. that’s after hand digging up part of the yard with a weed popper and a spade. ow my aching back - but does it ever look great! now just to remind my daughter not to pull up past the driveway to make room for a car behind her - oops - too late - she knew about the sod, just not the whereabouts - i was back today re-doing a couple of strips. ack!

i’m a little disappointed about the chucks being cancelled because it would have been my first time seeing them, so hopefully i will be able to go when they are rescheduled. humps and horns bullriding classic is tomorrow night but i am working, so next on the agenda - REDCLIFF DAYS!!!
